A planning application has been received by Broxtowe Borough Council in respect of Land at Southfield’s Farm, Bramcote, located immediately to the east of the dual carriageway A52 (Brian Clough Way) and approximately 230m north of Common Lane and east of Burnt Hill (Blue Bell Wood – Local Wildlife Site), as well as a thin strip of land running south alongside the A52 and along the B6003, ending at the substation, approximately 400m south of the roundabout.
Details of the proposed development or works including any change of use:
Construction and operation of two adjacent Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) facilities operating at different voltages (132kV and 33kV) in order to fully support the local electricity network. Both facilities are adjacent to each other within a single new overall site compound comprising: the erection of battery containers, switchgear containers, inverters, control building, and new substations; installation of new underground cable circuits to connect the new BESS substations; improvements to access from Common Lane; establishing new internal access roads, resurfaced compound, and turning area; installation of perimeter fencing and access gate; associated ground works; and landscaping.

Time is running out to feedback on this development. I have objected on the basis: The proposal is for inappropriate Development in the green belt. The exceptional circumstances needed to justify such development have not been demonstrated. The alternative sites analysis is deeply flawed and does not take on board the large areas of previously developed land (aka brownfield) closer to the Toton sub station.
Development would be counter to the local plan and as such should be refused. there are better sites for such a facility exists within a mile of that location (Toton sidings) where such a battery would have been welcomed not opposed.
