Potholes

I recently suggested to Councillor MacRae that he submit a Freedom of Information request, following numerous complaints being made on social media about the poor state of the repairs locally. here is their reply:

EIR 2004 – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REFERENCE FOI/1773 Thank you for your request for information relating to Potholes.   We have dealt with this request under the Environmental Information Regulations (2004) as this is typically how questions relating to potholes are dealt with. We are now able to provide the following information:

How much does Nottinghamshire County Council spend annually on fixing potholes?

The way the data is collected does not allow for differentiating between Carriageway & Footway works, and will also include other works as well as potholes such as replacing damaged kerbs, bollards etc, so we are unable to provide this information within the constraints of the EIR legislation.

How many potholes are fixed annually?

This varies annually but as an example for 2022 – 7858 repairs undertaken were recorded as pothole repairs in the Highway Asset Management System. This figure is for jobs closed in 2022.

How many of those potholes were previously fixed within 12 months?

This data is not available. We use a specially formulate material to repair pothole. What we find is that if a pothole arises at the same location, it commonly is not the previous repair failing but the surface around the previous repair. This in turn may cause the repair to fail but in many cases the repair is intact and stands proud of the further deterioration that has taken place.

How much compensation does Nottinghamshire County Council pay out annually in respect of pothole damage to vehicles?

Financial Year    Total Amount Paid

2020                    £22,575

2021                    £16,552

2022                    £8,574

Compensation information correct as on 11 January 2023.
