Bramcote Neighbourhood Forum held a Zoom meeting on Monday 12 May to agree our response to Broxtowe Borough Council’s consultation on the recent planning application for housing, new road junction onto A52 and other matters south of the A52 between Bardill and Sherwin roundabouts.
This is the forum’s response submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council:
Bramcote will be affected by the proposed development mainly as a result of the impact of the proposed new junction onto the A52.
The Forum unanimously voted at a public meeting on Monday 12 May 2025 to oppose the development on the grounds that it does not constitute sustainable development.
The leader of the council is on record as saying to the Chetwynd forum that the houses are not needed to achieve Broxtowe BC targets. They are only a means of raising some ÂŁ40,000,000 to pay for a road onto the A52. This road was recently described by the council as “unfunded” in the Broxtowe section of the Greater Nottingham Strategic plan.
The proposed development is in green belt, and does not constitute grey belt, and should therefore be rejected. No special circumstances have been presented that justify such development in the green belt.
The impact of a new junction on to the A52, in the form of a traffic signal controlled coupled with a possible reduction in speed to 40mph will add congestion and impede the free flow of traffic in and out of Nottingham. This will not only affect the A52 but also roads in Sandiacre, Stapleford and Bramcote as traffic seeks alternative routes.
The increased traffic from the Chetwynd barracks development should be brought to the A52 via an improved alignment of the tram terminus entrance and by making public transport, not least the tram, a more attractive alternative.
The houses on green belt are not needed and will trigger a marked deterioration in environment and transport.
We would be happy to present our reasons to the planning committee and to provide further details of the background to and evidence for our objection if asked.
