With Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) set to replace Broxtowe Borough Council, many residents are asking how Bramcote’s voice will continue to be heard when local decisions are made.
One option currently being discussed is the creation of a Parish Council or potentially a Town Council alongside neighbouring communities. At the next Community Action Team (CAT) meeting, Bramcote’s Borough Councillors will outline their thoughts on this possibility and explain how the process could work.
A Parish Council is the first tier of local government and provides communities with a formal voice on planning matters, local services, community facilities and other issues affecting their area. Parish councils can also take on responsibilities for things such as parks and open spaces, community and leisure centres, allotments, local events and neighbourhood planning.
As a recognised Neighbourhood Forum, BNF understands that if Bramcote were to become part of a Parish or Town Council, many neighbourhood forum functions could ultimately transfer to that body. For that reason alone, it is important that residents understand the options being considered and any potential implications for our community.
This meeting is an opportunity to:
- Learn what a Parish Council is and what powers it has.
- Understand how a Parish Council could be established.
- Hear directly from local councillors about the options being explored.
- Ask questions and share your views.
- Become better informed before any future decisions or consultations take place.
BNF does not take a position on whether a Parish Council should or should not be created. Our role is to help residents stay informed and encourage participation in discussions that may affect Bramcote’s future.
